Hello everybody! 1) Today we will explore one more urgent tool for language learning and self-education in general, that is mobile applications . A mobile phone is something that you definitely bring with you everywhere. So it is a perfect instrument for your self-education and self-development. By analogy with CALL (which is computer assisted language learning) there is a term connected with the usage of mobile technologies for language learning - MALL (mobile assisted language learning). After rather detailed studing of this issue I`ve formulated the main principles of MALL: Focus on not the device but the mobility of the learner.  Focus on the notion of context. The ability to learn across different social contexts. The ability to learn across different locations. The ability to employ different technologies. Focus on the notion of seamless learning. 2) Moreover, our cell phones can boost of one more interesting thing that is QR-code . I suppose you might thi

Hello, guys! Today we continue to observe numerous opportunities of the Internet and technologies for education and language learning in particular. It seems that the Intenet will never stop surprising me! In this post I`d like to get you acquainted with MOOC which is  a   massive open online course. First of all, let`s refer to the dictionary to find out the definition of this new term.  A  massive open online course  is an  online course  aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the  web .  MOOCs are a recent and widely researched development in  distance education  which were first introduced in 2006 and emerged as a popular mode of learning in 2012. Such a course has the following characteristics: it is open, participatory, distributed and provides life-long network learning. As it called a course it provides a systematic learning process (it has the beginning and the end) but not a rambling studing. In addtion to this, I have learned about f ive free MO

Hello, my dear friends! Today I have made my another personal discovery - Wiki , so I am eager to share my impressions with you.  I am sure everyone has ever used Wikipedia, but I am also sure many of us have never tried some other opportunities of Wiki. And I couldn`t imagine that there are numerous of them! If we consult the Internet, Wiki is  a web technology used for collaborative publishing on the web. Wiki is a type of server software that allows you to work with data on a remote server on the Web. Users interact with the software through a web interface that lets them read, edit and publish content . Moreover, there are 4 genres of wiki (encyclopedias, corporate wikis, fan wikis and educational wikis). All of them have their pecularities. And as you may guess Wikipedia presents only one of the genres, that is of encyclopedias. Due to my educational purposes I`ve decided to examine educational wikis and their opportunities. And it turned out that Wiki is a per

Survey services

Hello, guys! All the time we have examined recourses which help both students and teachers in their learning process. But there is one more aspect of teacher`s work. That is students` work control. Of course, students don`t like all these numerous tests, but they are, undoubtedly, an essential part of the learning process.  Nowadays the Internet offers teachers a lot of opportunities for tests making. In this post I will get you acquainted with several survey services.  Let`s start with MyTextX . It is a very useful and convenient resource which allows users to create tests with different types of tasks (e.x., one answer, several answers, text entry etc.). Everything is very well with this service except from it`s design. Unfortunately, it is rather plain. But if it doesn`t matter, MyTextX will become a good assistant for a busy teacher. Next are polls in Twitter . Honestly speaking, I haven`t known yet that this resource functions not only as a social network but al

Google services in education

Hello, dear students! I think, it is high time to discuss google services for educational purposes. I am sure, everybody has already worked with some of them, but I hope you will find something new from this post. Let`s start with Google Docs and Google Sheets. They are an ideal tool for group work on text and mistakes correction.  These services allow users to follow any changes added to the collective document, make notes and use chat.  Next is Google Slides . Two posts ago I examined this service in my review on resources for presention creation. So I won`t discuss it in detail here. The only thing I say is that this service is really worth using! And if you`d like to see this tool in practice, come to my previous posts where I added a link to my own presentation created in Google Slides. Now let`s head for the Google Forms . With the help of this service teachers can easily create various questionnaires. It is a perfect tool to use for homework and

Bookmarks

Hello everybody! Every day we deal with a lot of information in the Web, but many people just use a certain amount of resources much more often than others. So in order not to log in such websites every time there was created a special service called bookmarks .  But I am sure everyone has already worked with it. As in previous posts I have examined several resorces that allow users to create quick and useful bookmarks. All of them turned out to be rather simple, convenient, and, what is important, free. So I will just show you my personal bookmarks created in one of such a resource ( https://webstartpage.ru/ ). This resource attracted me by its logical structure and convenience. However, its design is rather plain, but, honestly speaking, it doesn`t matter, so if you`d like something more colourful choose some other resource. Good luck!

Resources for presentation creation

Hello, dear students! Today I have pleased myself by examing various resources for presentation creation. I am the kind of person who have used only Microsoft PowerPoint for ages and even hasn`t imagined that there are so many sesources that cater for this purpose. I`d like to share my opinion with you. I think that the best way to examine a resource for presentation creation is to create your own presention in it. So do I. I started with one of the google service, or to be precise, Google Slides. This resource allows users not only to create a new presention, but also to download already prepared ones. And it is very convenient if you want to show your presentation to a group of people. In general, this resource is rather simple, but very informative and logically organised. I would recommend it even for beginners. Here you can see the presentation that I created in Google Slides https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1kbmc8oZIuIeq_QXQ_ymrhWVvpapbnLt3mBJsSTA
